This Ag Biology Professional Development Tour gives agriculture teachers the opportunity to connect classroom instruction to real-world science and agricultural applications through visits to the science departments at Weber State University and the Ogden Nature Center. At Weber State University, teachers will tour laboratories, interact with professors and researchers, and explore biotechnology concepts while discussing the durable skills students are often lacking when entering college and careers, including communication, professionalism, problem-solving, collaboration, and independence. At the Ogden Nature Center, teachers will participate in a guided tour focused on ecology, biodiversity, conservation, and habitat restoration, helping educators discover hands-on, place-based strategies for integrating biological and environmental science concepts into their curriculum.
Look at modern manufacturing and fabrication processes through visits to Big Bubba Trailers and Richards Sheet Metal. The tours will include a hands-on introduction to technical drawings, where teachers will review blueprints and learn how to interpret basic welding symbols.
Learn about a varitey of animal science pathway areas by joining us to tour Heritage Ranch and U-inta Alpacas. You'll expereince Heritage Ranch with their state of the art training and breeding facility with on-site South Valley Vet Clinic, and then learn about show quality alpacas and how their wool spun and utilized.
Tour the trout farm facility. Learn about local watershed and water quality issues by doing hands-on activities presented by USU Botanical Center. Learn about range science and range competitions presented by Jeff Barnes
Following the industry tour, participants will return to the classroom to collaborate and reflect on their experience. In this session, teachers will work together to connect what they observed in industry settings to course strands and standards, identifying meaningful ways to integrate real-world applications into their instruction. Emphasis will be placed on translating workplace expectations, skills, and technologies into classroom learning experiences that better prepare students for high-wage, high-demand, and high-skill careers within the pathway.
